A Very Good MovieJul 22, 2010 I borrowed the Nativity Story from the neighborhood library; after watching it I decided that I needed to have my own copy! It is a great family film, the acting was very good although I was a little disappointed that Mary did not recite the magnificat. Joseph was portrayed by a young man as he should be; most movies and pictures have joseph as an elderly man. The three wise men were enjoyable and did provide a little comic relief! I only wish that the dvd was available on blu-ray disk.
Christmas DVDJul 07, 2010 I bought this as a gift for a friend and her family. I was a bit strapped for money, but I knew that she enjoys something that is conservative enough for her young children to watch as well. She was extremely thankful and used it also as a tool to teach her children about the story from the Bible. I have my own copy and it is a movie that is well made.
Rel 110Jul 06, 2010 The movie The Nativity Story first begins with the portrayal of the killings of King Herold. The rest of the movie portrays the conception of Mary and birth of Jesus Christ to explain why the King ordered the brutality.
Teenage Mary played by Keisha Castle-Hughes, betrothed to marry Joseph of Judea played by Ocsar Issac. Joseph is spoken to by God and told that Mary his future wife is to deliver His child and call him Jesus. Mary then goes to stay with her cousin Elizabeth for the harvest, while she is there she witnesses the birth of John the Baptist to Elizabeth, who is well past the child bearing age, and her husband Zachariah. Mary then returns from the visit pregnant, to the shock of Joseph and to her parents. Mary is accused of having sex, for which, if she's found guilty, she could be killed publically by stoning. At first Joseph does not believe Mary's explanation that she was visited by Gabriel the angel of God, and that she has broken no vow of chastity. He resolves to quietly divorce her, but before he does this, he too is visited by the very same angel. Joseph then believes Mary story, and promises to stay by her side.
Herod has demanded that every man and his family must return to his place of birth for census reasons. Joseph, as a direct descendant of King David, this meanss a trip across rocky terrain from Nazareth to the town of Bethlehelm, the place of his birth. A trip with Mary pregnant on a donkey also carrying supplies would have taken them several weeks. When they finally reach Bethlehem, Mary then goes into labor. Joseph finds a place for the two to stay, but there is no room in any inn or home. And then at the last minute, an innkeeper offers his stable for shelter.
While Mary and Joesph's story is being spread, a group of the three Magi who had previously discovered that three planets will align to form a great star seeks them. This star appears before the Magi, after a visit by the same angel Gabriel. The Magi eventually visit Herod and informs him that a King to the Jews has been born. Herod thinks of himself to be King of the Jews. This makes Herod send the Magi on journey to the East to visit to the newborn Jesus, and report the location back to Herod. The Magi show up at the stable in which the family is staying, and present the baby with the well-known gifts of gold, frankencense, and myrrh.
As told by the angel, the Magi do not return to Herod, but return to their origin by a different route. King Herod then realizes that the wise men have defied him, and in retribution demands the murder of every boy in Bethlehem up to the age of two years old. Joseph is warned in a dream of the danger and flees with Mary and the child to Egypt.
Love this movie!May 06, 2010 I love this movie! I think its a must-see every Holiday season. The maji are the "comedy relief" and the actors are wonderful. I cry at the end every time I watch it!

Nativity StoryMar 28, 2010 The Nativity Story is a movie based on the events leading up to, and including, the birth of Jesus. The movie begins with Herod issuing a decree that all boys under the age of two shall be killed, and the Roman soldiers carrying it out. It then flashes to a year earlier, to a village in Nazareth, where Mary is seen as a playful teen-ager and Joseph an adult. Mary's family arranges for her to be married to Joseph. She is not happy, and questions why her father would do this.
While out in the fields, she is visited by an angel and told that she will give birth to a male child. She is also told that her cousin is to give birth as well, and she decides to go visit her to see if all is as the angel had said. She witnesses the birth of John, then decides to return home. Her reception upon her return is negative, since she returns pregnant. No one believes her story, but Joseph refuses to accuse her of fornication, which would have led to her being stoned. Joseph is visited by the same angel that visited Mary, and he finally believes her when no one else does. Her family does eventually accept her.
Meanwhile, Herod issues a decree that all male Jews must return to the place of their birth for a census. His goal is to find the one who shall become the Messiah. Mary and Joseph embark on a journey across rugged terrain to get to Bethlehem, which is where Joseph was born. During the journey, Mary realizes what a good man Joseph is, and you can see how much Joseph loves and respects Mary. They make the journey successfully, with Mary going into labor upon their arrival.
While Mary and Joseph are making their journey, there are also three wise men who are following a star, believing it will take them to the new king of the Jews. They travel through Jerusalem, where Herod invites them to dine with him so he can find out where this king will be. He asks them to report back to him after they find him.
In a manger in Bethlehem, Mary gives birth to Jesus, with Joseph by her side. The baby is wrapped in cloth and laid in a manger. The shepherds in the field, seeing the light from the star, come to pay respects to the newborn king. The wise men also arrive, and bring gifts for the baby. The wise men then leave, and on there way back decide to travel around Jerusalem and defy Herod's order to return with a report.
The movie ends with Mary and Joseph leaving the manger right before the Roman soldiers show up to execute all male babies under two. They see the empty manger, and then ride off.
