Martin Logan - an American legendOct 21, 2009
By Busy Executive I have owned many Martin Logan products, including the Vantage, and all are of the highest quality. Electrostatic speakers have a unique, open and airy sound quite different than most conventional systems, and if this suits your tastes, the MLs are among the best.
Some folks find the airy openness of electrostats better for music than for home theater, but I disagree. Matched with stable, high-quality electronics, these sound amazing in a home theater system (that's how I have mine). They are of course also excellent for pure music with a clear, detailed sound quality not to be missed.
Note that they benefit from top quality electronics and very careful placement within your room in order to get the optimum performance (specifically, they need to be placed a few feet away from any walls). But give them 200 watts of pure, clean power and you won't believe the sound quality from these gems.
They are also somewhat difficult to clean (dust is attracted to the electrostatic elements and needs to be vacuumed), and I wouldn't feel right installing these fine speakers in a home with a smoker (smoke collects on the electrostatic panels, too). The wiring can also be complex - like all electrostats, the speakers need to be plugged into an electric outlet, not just connected via speaker cables.
Highly recommended and worth every penny!

Modern Day ESLsMay 27, 2011
By Rick This review is based upon using Vantages in a two channel audio-only audiophile system for 5+ years. The associated electronics were, at various times, Audio Research SP-8 MkII or SP-10 MkII tube preamps, D70 MkII tube amp, Krell KSP-7B preamp, Krell KSA-50 amp, Ayre CD-7Evo CD player, original Infinity Modulus servo subwoofer w/cross-over, and Linn Sondek TT/Ittok/Grado Signature analog vinyl system. I listen to rock, soft rock, pop, classical baroque, chamber music, jazz vocals.
If you are looking at Martin Logan ESLs, you are a serious audiophile. The Vantage ESLs deliver an extremely high resolution soundfield that is ultra coherent (i.e. it sounds as if there is only one sound transducer, no apparent cross-over). You will hear whatever is recorded on your source media, no more, no less. This speaker system has that magical combination of ESL resolution with(in)credible recreation of the soundstage of the performance. Very, very fast speaker, transients may scare you! Much wider "ESL window" in terms of frequency response than any of the classic ESLs of previous eras. Because there are integrated powered subs, it doesn't take much amp power to drive these loud. While I have tried 200-300w amps, you will be rewarded with 50-70w high resolution amps that can deliver significant output into 2 ohm reactive loads. The Krells sound magnificent with this ESL. Unlike most ESLs, Vantages can play LOUD with 50-70w. I am a bass lover and think that these subs are a little too polite. I run my Vantages with their bass controls set at normal output and let the Infinity servo sub do the woofing. Incredibly good results, I am totally pleased with this combo. Sound dispersion is wider than any other ESL I have heard, but still a tad narrow compared to good wide-dispersion systems. High frequencies (with the Krells) are right on. Midrange reproduction to die for. Imaging is very good, but not SOTA.
Home audio has been my passion for 30+ years. I have had a number of highly regarded speaker systems, including several other ESL models, one was the ML Aerius. The Vantage ESLs have ended my speaker system quest. Every time that I turn them on, I simply enjoy the music being played. Highly recommended.

Excellent quality and sound for your home theatreNov 23, 2009
By Japinder Singh My home theatre project has subtly and steadily consumed many thousand dollars of my hard earned money. Martin Logan speakers and subwoofers are expensive, but worth it. I have a 7.1 sound system setup in my home theatre room, and the sound is amazing. As I built out out my home theatre, I quickly realized that sound is more important than video. The ability to track sound of missiles and planes as the fly around you in a 7.1 movie is amazing. I highly recommend Martin Logan speakers and subwoofers. Yes, it is a lot of money, but it is worth it. I am not an audiophile, but I can tell the difference between vanilla Bose, and the quality of Martin Logan and/or Bowers and Wilkinson speakers.

Perfection from a Fashionable SpeakerMar 19, 2010
By Dennis J. Dickerson From the first moment that I heard Martin Logan products in my home there was a sense of immense clarity over my previous system (a top end system from a respected vendor). One review that I had read prior to purchase stated that "Martin Logan speakers don't bring the performers into your listening room - they bring the performers and their listening room into your listening room". For this reason, they also make for a stunning home theater system - they realistically transport you into the acoustical environment of the movie. Very immersive. I use Frescos mounted high on the side walls (with the faces rotated down towards the seating areas) for surround sound, most people don't even notice them until they start playing. My wife also loves this setup becuase - compared to conventional speakers - the thin, transparent panels don't visually take over the room. It makes for a very elegant solution that will engage you every time you turn it on.
