 More than expected!Jun 09, 2010
These were purchased as a "background music" bedroom system, and driven by a Sonos ZP120, wireless low powered music server (55 wpc).
The speakers are adjacent to the sides of a large plasma TV, in a room that is likely a bit boomy. My wife was out of the country, and I travel so I put on Pandora Music Service, and let them break in for 1 week before I really listened. Used the speaker wire that came in the box with the Sonos hardware. Again, not looking for high quality out of this system (or so I thought!).
When I came home to really listen, I queued up Lucinda Williams and Patti Griffin, and was BLOWN AWAY with the gorgeous midrange and top. Bass extension was more than anticipated, but not subterranean. This is a very warm, balanced speaker with a feathery top end. Likely either rolls off a bit, or the planar tweeter is one smooth and natural sounding sucker!
Great job all around, and highly worth the price.

I thought that I was buying quality with Martin Logan, but the Preface speakers arrived with grills that were over an inch out of spec top to bottom, and so fit poorly, if at all. The sound seems to be of good quality. I also thought that I was buying an American made product, only to find that they are made in China. Very disappointing. I hope the replacement grills are of better quality, or I will return them and shop for something else.

The Martin Logan Preface speakers are excellent! They produce much clearer sound than our old budget-priced speakers. Also, the use of a heavier gauge speaker wire (as recommended by Martin Logan) did make a noticeable improvement.

The grills didn't fit the cabinets correctly. I'd press the top in and the bottom would pop out. Press the bottom in, the top pops out. One of the speakers didn't even work. I tested it several times and it produced no sound. Martin Logan told me to open the cabinet up and try to fix it. I opted to return the speakers and try something else. In my opinion, $1,000 speakers should work and the grills should fit. I've been more satisfied spending much, much less.

Bought the Martin Logan preface speakers, on a friends recomendation, I was looking for good front speakers for my media room. Initially tried the speakers with a sunfire amp, the sound was like concert quality with tremondous bass and depth. I am currently using them with the martin logan matinee center channel and a marantz Sr6004 reciever. The sound is phenomenol. My experience with amazon in terms of ease of ordering and promptness of delivery via audioadvisors was great, my only critique was the speaker shipping box was torn on the side but the speakers were alright (the company sends them double boxed). Highly recommend the product for a great movie experience.
